The Kansas City Food Circle is building a community food system in which farmers, eaters, chefs, and grocers know and trust each other. Our network enables us to share our knowledge and experience while we work together promoting the benefits of locally-grown organic and free-range foods. We cooperate in nourishing each other today while seeking to sustain the ability of future generations to nourish themselves through healthy farming practices.
LocalHarvest is America’s #1 organic and local food website. We maintain a definitive and reliable “living” public nationwide directory of small farms, farmers markets, and other local food sources. Our search engine helps people find products from family farms, local sources of sustainably grown food, and encourages them to establish direct contact with small farms in their local area.
The KCCSAC shall increase food access and food security in the Kansas City metropolitan area by promoting Community Supported Agriculture initiatives including CSA farm operations, market and community gardens, urban and rural agricultural sites, and value-added product operations, and by addressing the rapid decline of family farms and the loss of agricultural land by linking small and medium-scale food producers to new markets in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The KCCSAC shall foster new marketing and food-growing opportunities that address the needs of small and medium family farms, urban gardeners, and Kansas City’s diverse metropolitan area. Through education, training, leadership development, and organizing efforts, the KCCSAC shall build diverse partnerships to advance dialogue and action on farming, hunger, and nutrition.
