Slow Food Kansas City Local Egg Day

Press Release

For Immediate Release

Slow Food Kansas City Presents:
Local Egg Day Celebration
Celebrate the EGG at local restaurants, bakeries, butcher shops and wine vineyards.

On May 24, 2014, Slow Food Kansas City will celebrate Local Egg Day in cooperation with local restaurants, markets and food artisans. Select local restaurants and bakeries will offer a special dish using a local egg. There’s no money involved and no advertising dollars will be spent. We’re just celebrating and supporting local farmers and eggs.

Why eggs? The United States produces approximately 75 billion eggs each year, which is about 10 percent of the world’s total. Consumers use 60 percent of these and the food service industry uses nine percent. The rest are processed and used in products such as mayonnaise, marshmallows and cake mix. Eggs are an excellent, affordable source of high quality protein with the potential to feed people around the world – in both developed and developing countries.

Restaurants, bakeries, butcher shops, wineries and other food providers participating in the Local Egg Day Celebration will include:

Bluestem, Michael Smith, Extra Virgin, Blanc Burgers & Bottles, The Farmhouse, Julian, Rye, Jasper’s, Rene Kelly’s Harvest, Tavern, Room 39, Story, Chaz on the Plaza, Magnolia, Jerry’s Cafe, Lidia’s, EBT, Em Chamas, Local Pig, Marco Polo’s Italian Market, 715 in Lawrence, SmallCakes CupCakery, CowTown Cheesecake, Somerset Ridge Winery, Blue Moose, O’Dowd’s Little Dublin, Barley’s & 75th St Brewery
