Summer 2013 Events

Greetings from Slow Food Kansas City! We hope you are enjoying your summer. We have some great events coming up that are listed below. Stay cool and hope to see you soon!

7/27 – Cocktails and Small Plates with Thirsty Jane and Chef Charles d’Ablaing at Chaz on the Plaza

Join Slow Food Kansas City for a mid-summer afternoon of handcrafted cocktails and small plates featuring local ingredients and local talent. J.K. O’Hanlon (AKA Thirsty Jane or Jane Kurtz), local author of 3 Ingredient Cocktails will be creating and demoing cocktails. You’ll also receive a copy of Jane’s book!

Gifted local chef Chef Charles d’Ablaing of Chaz on the Plaza will be showing us how to make one of the small plates he is serving. Chef Charles has generously agreed to give attendees a 15% discount on dinner in the dining room that night (food and beverage). Attendance for this event is limited to 25 lucky individuals.

Summer’s Bubbles
The GV (created in honor of long time SFKC board member and wine guy George Vesel)
Mojito de Juanita (featuring cantalope-cello from Jasper’s Ristorante)
Flotation Device

Small Plates
Pan roasted skate wing, braised local spinach, sauce choron
Rabbit ravioli, mushroom nage, porcini mushrooms, kale chips
Pan grilled sirloin, sumac fries, lemonata sauce

$47 for Non-Members

Price includes: cocktails, small plates, tax and tip, an autographed copy of 3 Ingredient Cocktails, and a 15% discount at Chaz on the Plaza for dinner that night (food and beverage)

8/2 – First Friday at Mod Studio & Backdoor Gallery in the Crossroads.

We thought this would be a great opportunity for Slow Food members and friends to meet up and hang out together.  Members of our board will be present if you have questions about programs, ideas for programs or would like to become more involved, but don’t know how.  No, there won’t be a presentation!  We just thought it would be a great chance to get together with like-minded people and have a good time.

Rick Mullins and Mickey Priolo  (who usually cook at Gram and Dun) are cooking up some food, along with the usual art, booze and music for all of your entertainment needs. It is a FREE event that everyone is welcome to attend. Stop by just to say “hi”!

8/13 – Heirloom Tomato Dinner at Kurlbaum’s Farm

Join Slow Food Kansas City and our friends from Kurlbaum’s Heirloom Tomatoes for an old fashioned farmhouse dinner.  The Kurlbaum Family will be preparing a meal featuring prime rib with an appetizer and salad of their local heirloom tomatoes along with a fabulous summer dessert. This is one LOCAL dinner not to miss, and it definitely will sell out. Our friend and local Slow Food board member Cindy Reynolds of Somerset Ridge Vineyards and Winery will be offering their local wine for sale that evening.

When: Tuesday, August 13, 2013, 6 pm
Where: Kurlbaum’s Heirloom Tomatoes, 6330 Donahoo Road, Kansas City, KS 66104

$45.00 per person includes tax and gratuity
All proceeds from this dinner will go to support local community gardens.
