Where Our Money Goes
Slow Food Kansas City has raised and donated thousands of dollars to scholarship programs, educational activities and local non-profit groups. Here’s a sample of a few of the organizations we’ve supported. Click on the group's name to go to their website to learn more about them.
Broadmoor Bistro Urban Farms
We gave seed money toward establishing their Urban Farm. This farm will teach students at Broadmoor about growing and harvesting seasonally, and will provide food for their restaurant. It will also serve as a teaching lab for the surrounding community. Kansas City Community Gardens Our funds support their mission to assist low-income households and community groups in our metro area to produce vegetables and fruit from garden plots in backyards, vacant lots, and at community sites. Boys Grow Funds that we’ve given help support a range of programs, from teaching at-risk boys how to care for crops and livestock, to developing products from their farm and becoming true entrepreneurs. Kansas City Food Circle We contributed funds to support this group’s mission -- to connect people with local farmers and producers. Veterans Community Project Monies donated to this group are equipping an on-site community kitchen to enable former homeless veterans in our area reconnect with nourishing themselves and rebuilding their lives. |
